PRINCETON, AL (WAFF) -

Friday, a Vietnam veteran got his high school diploma, after he was drafted and had to leave school.

Larry Knight was a 19-year-old junior at Paint Rock Valley High one day, then a specialist in the U.S. Army the next.

"I didn't expect it. I was hoping I'd get out of it, but I didn't. First thing it said was ‘Greetings, you are hereby ordered to report to your local army reserves', so that's what I did", said Knight.

Nearly 45 years after he was drafted into the army, Larry Knight now has his high school diploma. His old high school principal was even there to make it official.

"Well I'm proud of it, sure am, but it's been a long time coming, should have had it before I went", laughed Knight.

Alabama law allows veterans who were drafted, to receive their diploma even though decades have gone by.

Now officially a high school graduate, Knight can turn the tassel and be proud of his accomplishments.
