HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville city leaders approved two proposals during Thursday's council meeting.

The Huntsville City Council took action Thursday on a proposed pre-trial diversion program. Council members approved the proposed ordinance, which would allow people who commit misdemeanors to get counseling and do community service instead of going through the entire court system and ending up in jail. The offender would also have to pay fees.

The council also approved a proposal to extend the hours and days of the entertainment districts in Downtown Huntsville.

The hours will now be Thursdays from 5 to 11 p.m., and noon to 11 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Big Spring Summit and Springhill Suites will also be included in the district.
