DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange traveled to Morgan County Thursday to talk about cracking down on fraudulent BP oil spill claims.

AG Strange spoke to a crowd in Decatur about fraud associated with the massive spill in 2010. He said they are finding more and more people who have received money that weren't affected by the disaster.

So far, 13 Alabamians have been charged and eleven have been convicted.

"It's real important to get the message out that if you're thinking about submitting a fraudulent claim, if you think it's easy money, think again. We're working with the FBI and the police to find these people and prosecute them," he said.

The attorney general encourages people to report others who make fraudulent BP claims. To do it, call the Gulf Coast Disaster Fraud Hotline at 1-877-623-3423.
