LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

With two of the state's four mental health hospitals closing in the past year, the need for mental health facilities is great right now in Alabama. With a round of golf, people can help a group working to fill that need.

The Foundation for Mental Health is holding a tournament at the Canebrake golf course in Athens. Proceeds will help pay for a nine-bed community-based mental health facility. It will be built by Habitat for Humanity.

"This is the only such project of its kind in the state where a community mental health center is partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build this. So, essentially we're going to have an almost half-a-million dollar facility for pennies on the dollar," said William Giguere, the Development Officer for the Foundation for Mental Health.

The tournament at Canebrake is on November 21st. Participants can register early or on the day of the event starting at 10 a.m. It costs $125 per person and $500 for a four people. There are also sponsorship opportunities for businesses. For more information and a link to an online registration form, visit the Foundation for Mental Health website at http://mhcnca.org/golf.aspx .
