MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Police are investigating the death of an infant at a Boaz day care facility.

Police and medics were called out to the Sweet Pea Learning Academy and Day Care center on Monday after receiving a 911 call.

The center told police a 4-month-old boy was not breathing and that CPR had been started by day care workers.

The child was transported to the Marshall Medical Center South where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, the child had been placed in a crib by a child care worker for a nap and was found not breathing a short time later. Authorities said it wasn't known if the child had any underlying medical conditions. Investigators said foul play was not expected.

The infant's body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics for an autopsy.

Investigators said all day care workers were certified in CPR and certifications were up to date.
