FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The Shoals Community Clinic in Lauderdale County offered free health care to the public Wednesday. This is the clinic's 16th year in the Shoals, and it focuses on community members who cannot afford health care.

Nora Bartley has been a patient at the free health clinic in Florence for the past five years. She said that without it, she would surely suffer. With a limited income and no health insurance, she depends on the screenings provided to help keep her in check.

"There's a lot of people who are like me who fall through the cracks. They also have one in April that's for the females, so I take advantage of both of those. That's how I've been keeping my health up," said Bartley.

In addition to the screenings, officials with Enroll Alabama were on-hand to help answer questions about signing up for affordable health care, a system that has people like Nora hesitant about the future.

"It's going to be tight. I have a 71-year-old disabled husband. I'm a full-time care provider, so I'm not able to work outside the home. I don't know what the cost or anything is going to be," she said.
