Organizer of Memorial Stair Climb honored at ceremony

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Florence firefighter Dustin Simmons was honored Tuesday for his work to honor fallen brethren and to help families in need of assistance.

Simmons was presented with the Firemark Award for Community Service and Public Education by Whitney Mullican of award sponsor Liberty Mutual.

Simmons is the organizer of the Florence Memorial Stair Climb, which honors the firefighters who were killed on September 11. All proceeds were donated to the National Firefighters Foundation.

Over $4,000 was raised at the event, and was donated to the Foundation, which helps families of fallen firefighters in their darkest times.
