LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County man charged with capital murder and leaving the state after the crime spent Tuesday afternoon in court.

Officials brought Shannon Brewer to the courthouse for a pre-trial hearing in his capital murder case. His attorney said there is a chance the case will be continued until next summer.

Brewer is charged with the capital murder of Mark Dishon and the assault of Sandra Sikes last November. Brewer's brother Jerry is accused of helping him leave the state. The two were caught in Florida less than 24 hours later.

Jerry Brewer has been indicted for hindering prosecution and receiving stolen property.

If Shannon Brewer is convicted of capital murder, he could face the death penalty or life without parole.
