RED BAY, AL (WAFF) -

Students at Red Bay School spent Tuesday with veterans and active military members, learning about the importance of supporting America's veterans.

Chaplain Mitch Nethery is one of the nearly two dozen veterans who spent the day with students at Cypress Cove. Their mission was to teach a younger generation about service and sacrifice.

"Just to be honest, our children today are a little spoiled. They have everything at their fingertips. They're just one click away on an app to do most anything they want to do. So to show them that it's important to sacrifice, to give, to share that we're in this together. It's a community of involvement and those things are very important and to show the necessity of service," said Nethery.

Through the years, America's veterans have given a lot to provide freedom. Now in the post 9/11 era it's important to preserve and honor the memory of those who have fought and those who continue to fight.

For veterans like Oscar Glover, they find comfort in two little words… thank you.

"It goes a long way to be thanked for your service; that somebody acknowledges that what you did is acceptable in this time," said Glover.
