ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens State University's Center for Religious Studies and Ethics was renamed the Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics.

The center was renamed in honor of Dr. Curtis Coleman, who died in 2010. Dr. Coleman was an ordained United Methodist minister who joined the faculty of Athens College (now ASU) in 1966. Dr. Coleman became Emeritus Dean and Professor of Religion and Philosophy at ASU and even donated the profits from his book "Stop, Look, and Listen" to the Religion Department.

A reception is planned to formally announce the renaming of the center on Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. Family, colleagues and friends of Dr. Coleman will gather at the Center for Lifelong Learning, located at 121 S. Marion Street, to celebrate his legacy. This reception is free and open to everyone.
