Massive MPS audit continues school by school

Posted: Updated:

It's the largest investigation of its kind conducted by the State Department of Education.

Several auditing teams are working rapidly to audit every school in the system -- studying everything from classroom activity and curriculum to school feeder patterns.

To date, the state has audited 10 schools. According to Dr. Catherline Williamson, each school audit lasts two days. In order to canvas larger campuses in this time frame, the state is assembling upwards of 30-person teams to observe teaching and student interaction in every classroom.

Each auditor spends an average of 20 minutes alongside group meetings with teachers and parents.

These audits come on the heels of allegations of widespread grade changing in Montgomery's traditional high schools, which eventually led to the ouster of former Superintendent Barbara Thompson.

Tonight on WSFA 12 News at 6, we'll take you inside Brewbaker Middle School as the state department continues its rigorous work.
