WILLARD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A hostage situation in Willard, OH has ended.

According to city officials, a call was received around 5:18 p.m. Wednesday, reporting a gunman was attempting to rob the Family Dollar store.

When police responded, they found not a robbery, but a hostage situation. Police say a gunman, Shawn Schuett, had barricaded the doors and held two female store employees hostage. Officials say Schuett stated he was not interested in money but wanted to "make a statement."

Shortly after 8 p.m., one of the hostages exited the store and told police that the gunman had shot the other hostage. At that time, police broke store windows to enter the building and found Schuett dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Police say Kim Kelly, 48, of New Washington, Ohio, was killed in the standoff. Another person was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in good condition.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
