Apartments evacuated in early morning fire

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Fire damaged at least two units at an Athens apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the fire at the Camelot Apartments on Elm Street started around 2:30 a.m. 

The fire appeared to have started in an upstairs apartment unit. There are 24 units in the building, all of them were evacuated.

According to the resident who lived in the unit, she admitted to leaving a candle burning and said that her dog died in the fire. 

Red Cross responded to the scene and arranged hotel rooms for residents. 

According the State Fire Marshal's office, the fire is being deemed accidental. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
