MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Two people have been charged with interference with custody following a weekend missing persons case in Morgan County.

On Sunday, a 13-year-old girl was reported missing in Eva by her parents. She was located in Athens when she walked into a store with two adults and told them that she was the "missing Eva girl."

Further investigation revealed that the 13-year-old enlisted the two adults, Aaron Jene Welker and Emily Alyne Waldrop to assist her in leaving her home. The girl met the two at the end of her driveway where they picked her up in a vehicle.

Investigators said the trio went to the movies, and then to a motel where they dyed the girl's hair in an attempt to change her appearance. When they turned on the TV in the motel, they saw news reports about the girl's missing status and became frightened. Investigators said they then fled to Tennessee for a short period before coming back to Alabama.

On Monday, the girl decided she wanted to go home. The three decided to go to a store and pretend the adults had just "found her," according to investigators.

Welker and Waldrop were each charged with a felony count of interference. They are being held on $15,000 bond each.
