GURLEY, AL (WAFF) - It wasn't hard to find the problems on Miller Road, near Gurley, in Madison County. As one person posted on See, Click, Fix, there's a huge dump pile.
He reported kitchen sinks, old boards and broken concrete. We saw diaper boxes, plastic containers and plenty of tree branches. It's all in front of the edge of a wooded area. There's no house, and it's unclear who owns the property.
I contacted the Madison County District 3 office, and they sent me to the Madison County Health Department in case it's a health hazard. So now, the Environmental Engineering Department is checking out to see what can be done. It may fall back on the county to clean up the mess and move forward, especially if they can't find a property owner. I'll stay on top of it and will update you on what the county has to say.
A little closer to Little Cove Road, at 221 Miller Road, there's another "who's the owner" house situation. It looks like this house fell apart a long time ago.
Most of the windows are gone. There's a huge hole in the back wall, tree limbs through the roof and weeds overgrown from the front door to the street. "It's a snake magnet" is how the person commenting on See, Click, Fix put it, adding "The county needs to bulldoze before someone gets hurt."
Again, we're looking into who owns or owned the property and, then, the county can move forward.
