Lincoln Co. utilities superintendent enters not guilty plea

Posted: Updated:

The former superintendent of the Lincoln County Board of Public Utilities, pleaded not guilty to a theft charge.

Billy Joe Wiley did not show up at the hearing on Tuesday. Instead, his attorney appeared in court in his place and entered the not guilty plea.

Investigators said a state audit revealed that while Wiley served as superintendent, employees were paid almost $300,000 in bonuses and for overtime they never earned.

The money was paid between January 2008 and December 2011 while Wiley served as superintendent.

"I'm interested in seeing the evidence in the case so that we can determine how to approach the issues we have," said Wiley's attorney, Bob Massey.

Wiley's next court date is scheduled for November 19th.
