Sex offender accused of crime against man with cerebral palsy

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A sex offender is back behind bars in Jackson County over new allegations of a new sex crime. The victim in this case is someone who is incapacitated.

19-year-old Mark Allen Wamsley is currently in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree sexual abuse. Authorities said he befriended the 21-year-old victim, who has cerebral palsy, by playing video games with him at a home in the Bryant community.

That relationship changed Oct. 19, when authorities said touching began, but quickly ended after the victim told an adult what had happened to him. Authorities later learned Wamsley is a convicted sex offender out of Georgia.

"The offender had registered with Jackson County recently. He had a conviction from 2011 in Dade County, Georgia for child molestation and aggravated sodomy, and had moved to the Bryant area and became friends with this 21-year-old," said Investigator Eric Woodall.

Wamsley's bond has not yet been set.
