MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Authorities responded to a wreck involving a Madison County Sheriff's deputy Friday morning.

It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Moores Mill Road and Ruby Drive. According to authorities, the cruiser was turning into the Church of Christ parking lot when it was struck by a white pickup truck from behind. The cruiser flipped over into a ditch.

The deputy in the cruiser was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"He (the deputy) indicated he was driving down the road on standard patrol, stopped to make a turn, and it appeared as though he was struck from behind. Alabama State Troopers are investigating the accident and will present us with the findings," said Chief Deputy Chris Stephens.

Both lanes of traffic were closed as crews worked to clear the scene.
