Volunteers and officials work to "Keep Guntersville Beautiful"

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Officials in Marshall County are planting trees, shrubs, and flowers in Guntersville as part of National Planting Day.

Teams worked together to beautify the area around the Farmers Market and walking trail in Guntersville Thursday afternoon.

Azaleas, hydrangeas, and even magnolia trees were just some of various different plants that were planted. All of the plants are native to the state. It's part of the "Keep Guntersville Beautiful" campaign.

Some city workers joined the volunteers who participated.

Nicole Reyes said, "We hope that this enriches our community and promotes people going out and enjoying nature. It improves our quality of life when people come out and they have a lovely place to walk."

Volunteers said they will have another planting in the spring at another location in Civitan Park.
