DANVERS, MA (RNN) - A 14-year-old boy has been charged in the death of a high school math teacher in Massachusetts.
Philip Chism, 14, was charged in the murder of Colleen Ritzer, 24, after she was reported missing when she didn't home from school on Tuesday.
Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said that blood was found on the second-floor bathroom at the high school, and Ritzer's body was found behind Danvers High School Tuesday night, according to WCVB.
Chism was arraigned on Wednesday and ordered to be held without bond, according to CNN.
According to the charges read in court, Chism allegedly assaulted and beat Ritzer.
Dozens attended a vigil in remembrance of Ritzer Wednesday night, leaving candles and flowers outside the school where she worked.
Ritzer's family released the following statement:
"At this time, we are mourning the tragic death or our amazing, beautiful daughter and sister. Everyone that knew and loved Colleen knew of her passion for teaching and how she mentored each and every one of her students."
Ritzer was also active on social media. She posted her last tweet on Monday.
She described herself online as a "math teacher often too excited about the topics I'm teaching."
According to CNN, The Boston Red Sox will honor Ritzer Wednesday night at the World Series.
The cause of death hasn't been released.
School will reopen Thursday and grief counselors will be on hand.
Earlier this week, a math teacher from Sparks Middle School was shot and killed by a 12-year-old with a semi-automatic handgun in Sparks, NV. Two students were injured before the shooter took his own life.
