SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

Five days after a woman was brutally raped and robbed in Sheffield, her attacker remains at large.

Police released a sketch of the man accused of violently raping and robbing a woman at the Colbert Square Apartments Tuesday evening.

Apparently this stranger had come by her apartment looking for an unknown person. She opened the door to talk to him and he forced his way in and sexually assaulted her.

Police say the man attempted to clean up the scene. He then forced the victim outside naked, stole her car keys and cell phone and took off. Officers found the woman's car abandoned in the middle of the road, just a few blocks away.

The suspect in this case had actually went to two other apartments prior to the third apartment with the same sad story and was trying to get into an apartment. police say the woman is recovering from the assault.

The victim was able to provide a description of her attacker, therefore leading to investigators being able to release a sketch.

The man is believed to be in his mid-to-late 20's and about 5'9" in height.

Sources said during the assault, the victim was able to strike the offender in the forehead with an ashtray. There was a lot of blood at the crime scene so the offender could have a gash in his head.

If you've see this man or have any information about this case, Sheffield Police ask that you contact them immediately.
