TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Last month in Toledo, there was a violent string of four shootings over two days. Two of the shootings were fatal.

Sunday night, one of the victims, Shaun Flowers, was remembered at Frankie's Inner City Club.

The theme of the night was 'Start the music, stop the violence.'

Shaun is described by family members as loving, caring, gentle and someone who wouldn't hurt a soul.

Last month, the 22 year old was shot multiple times at the corner of Dorr Street and Woodstock Avenue.

Shaun died at the scene and his sister, Donna Flowers, believes he was attacked because he wore red.

"Honestly, I think because he had on the wrong colors in the wrong neighborhood. Simply one of his favorite colors. No gang affiliation. Just decided to wear red," said Ms. Flowers.

What happened to Shaun inspired a group of local performers spanning the entire musical spectrum to play the Frankie's gig hoping to end the violence through their music.

They performed for free.

The cover charge will help defray Shaun's funeral expenses.

"Music is a universal thing. If everybody can get together and have fun playing their instruments, listening to other people party, no one gets in trouble," said Jim Hawkins of the band Illumira.

Hip hop artist, Sixx Digit, organized the benefit.

He's a friend of Shaun.

"It's terrible when people die for no reason. Everyday we turn on the news and see something else. It effect's a lot of people," said Sixx.

And on this night, it's hoped the power of music will make Toledo a safer place to live.
