Tuskegee University's president resigns, interim leader named

TUSKEGEE, AL -

Tuskegee University will soon have to start the process of finding a new leader after an announcement Friday that Dr. Gilbert L. Rochon, the university's president, resigned. The resignation was effective immediately.

Tuskegee University says Dr. Rochon announce his resignation during the fall meeting of the Board of Trustees, and it was accepted by the board. A specific reason for the resignation was not given.

Major General (Ret.) Charles E. Williams, chairman of the Tuskegee University Board of Trustees, thanked Dr. Rochon for his three years of service and expressed very best wishes for his future endeavors.

The Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Matthew Jenkins as the acting president of the university.
Dr. Jenkins, a native of the state of Alabama, graduated from Tuskegee University in 1959, receiving the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors.
