MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

The Alabama Supreme Court has denied a convicted murderer's request for a new trial.

Kimberly McLaughlin, 53, was convicted of killing her mother, Shirley Robuck, in 2009. Investigators said she beheaded her mother and set her Madison home on fire.

McLaughlin claimed that the jury ignored expert testimony that she suffered from a mental defect. She is currently serving a life sentence in prison.

Shirley Robuck was a former coworker of ours here at WAFF 48 News.
