HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Many came together Thursday night to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Crisis Services of North Alabama hosted its annual candlelight vigil on the campus of Oakwood University. A crowd of people came out to remember those who lost their lives due to domestic violence, and honor those who survived.

During the event, the Women Helping Others Foundation made a large donation to Crisis Services. The money will be used to hire a therapist to work with children exposed to domestic violence.

"It's very important that children who have been exposed are able to talk to somebody, a counselor, so that they understand that what's going on in their home is not their fault," said Janet Gable of Crisis Services.

Gable said it is important to also teach children about healthy relationships.
