Endgame for government shutdown possible tonight

Good Wednesday evening. Here's a look at just a few of the stories we're working on here in the WAFF 48 Newsroom for our 10 o'clock newscast.

All eyes are on Washington, D.C. tonight as a deal to end the partial government shutdown is in the works. A bill to temporarily end that shutdown in this it's 16th day has already passed the Senate. All that remains is for it to pass the House and be signed by President Obama. The bill calls for the opening of the government through Jan. 15 and extending the nation's borrowing limit through Feb. 7. We'll have a live report from the nation's capital at 10.

We're also following a brutal crime out of the Shoals. As we first told you earlier this evening, a Sheffield woman was raped inside her home by man last night. As police continue to search for this sexual predator, WAFF 48's Diana Crawford spoke with a neighbor who helped the woman soon after the crime occurred. We'll hear from that neighbor tonight at 10.

And why in the world would a crook risk jail time to steal a cell phone cover? We're still trying to figure this one out. The robber also fought with a couple of loss prevention officers at the store. It's all caught on tape, and it's your chance to pocket up to a thousand dollars in reward money if your anonymous tips lead police to the crook. Don't miss my weekly Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers report.
