Arrest report reveals cat-killing details

Posted: Updated:

The record of a Shoals man's arrest on animal cruelty charges shows he admitted to police that he bought cats from Craigslist and killed most of them.

Neighbors said they repeatedly found dead cats thrown in their yards, and the trail led Athens Police to Ronald Golden. One of his neighbors reported finding four dead cats in their yard during the past month.

During questioning, Golden admitted to throwing the cats in his neighbor's yard. He told them he bought a total of 28 cats off Craigslist and killed 22 in his home on Bullington Road. He gave police permission to search his property.

Out of the 28 cats, investigators only found two alive, which they rescued and turned over to a shelter. Golden claimed four died of natural causes, and the others he killed by throwing them on the floor and breaking their necks.

Investigators said Golden told them he was angry at the world and had been killing kittens since July. He is currently out of jail on bond.
