Police said the second man wanted in connection with the theft of copper and destruction of air conditioning units in Baton Rouge has been arrested in Texas.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Wayne Watson, 49, of Baton Rouge, was taken into custody Monday by the Port Arthur Police Department. He was arrested on an active warrant by BRPD.

Authorities said once he is extradited back to Louisiana he will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of simple burglary (2 counts) and unauthorized entry of a place of business.

John Ray Jackson, 47, of Baton Rouge, was arrested October 8 in connection with burglaries at Acme Refrigeration on October 6 and 7.

Detectives said during a surveillance operation, they spotted a man retrieving air conditioning coils he had hidden behind other businesses.

They reported he put the coils in his truck and drove off. They added he tried to flee police but was caught a short time later.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of simple burglary and aggravated flight from an officer.

The air conditioning units were reportedly worth $65,000.
