GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Law enforcement officers from across the Gulf Coast will roar into Louisiana Tuesday to show off their skills.

About 150 motorcycle officers from nine states will work to raise money for a good cause, as the practice rounds of the 15th Annual Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Championship will kick off.

These men and women of the law are not just showing off their chopper skills to each other. They're also raising money for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

The practice rounds will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The real competition happens Friday. Officers will take part in timed events that simulate bike maneuvers and emergency situations they face on a daily basis.

Since the competition started 15 years ago, it has raised more than $700,000 for the Dream Day Foundation, which supports St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Practice and competition days are open and free to the public. The competition will take place October 15 through October 19, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the south parking lot of Cabela's in Gonzales.
