LAPLACE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police said a section of I-10 on the Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge was closed after three crashes, two of them involving overturned 18-wheelers.

Officials reopened all lanes of I-10 over the Bonnet Carre Spillway between Kenner and LaPlace about 12 hours after an SUV went the wrong way and caused two separate accidents involving tractor trailers.

It is believed the driver of the SUV was impaired at the time of the crash. Michael Gomez, 39, of Texas, was arrested. He was booked into the St. Charles Parish Prison on charges of DWI (first offense), reckless operation and violating of one-way traffic.

Authorities reported one of the 18-wheelers caught fire. The third wreck happened when a car rear-ended a truck. All of the drivers involved suffered minor injuries. The roadway was completely closed for nearly seven hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
