Apple butter stirs good feelings in Grand Rapids

Posted: Updated:
GRAND RAPIDS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sunday is the one day of the year the population of Grand Rapids swells from 900 to 65,000.

It's all because of the annual Apple Butter Festival.

All the apple butter is made on site at the town park.

2400 pints will be sold.

What's the secret to making a good batch of apple butter?

"Stir. A lot," said Lisa Lamsom, who was stirring a batch.

Lines for the apple butter are as long as you'd find for a roller coaster at Cedar Point.

"Probably about forty minutes and they tell us the next batch is coming out in a half hour but I'm willing to wait," said Stephanie Small.

"Because it's really good and we only get it once a year here," said Diane Owens.

The one day festival is a four decade tradition for Grand Rapids.
