RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Russellville police arrested two parents on child abuse charges after they allegedly waited four days to get medical treatment for their 3-year-old who suffered from burns on her chest.

Police arrested 28-year-old Annali Vasquez and her husband, 29-year-old Jose Gregorio Vasquez-Rocha, and charged both with child abuse.

According to reports, the 3-year-old received burns after she spilled soup on her chest on Sept. 29th. Police said the child was not taken for medical attention until Oct. 3rd and by then an infection formed in the injuries.

Police said the child's burns were so severe she had to be transported to the burn unit at Children's Hospital in Birmingham to receive treatment.

Both parents are being held in the Russellville City Jail without bail. The child is in the custody of the Department of Human Resources.
