COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Counties across the state held status updates on Alabama's Transportation Improvement Program, also known as ATRIP.

Leaders in Colbert County met Wednesday morning to discuss where they stood as far as progress on road repairs within the county, as well as future plans.

Officials in the county agreed to focus on repairs to bridges and resurfacing and widening heavily trafficked areas.

"I think we take our road systems for granted. When you have a governor that will stand up and say ‘you give me 20 percent, I'll give you the rest of it,' that's a strong statement. That's what Colbert Co. is all about – trying to maximize that," said county engineer John Bedford.

Colbert Co. will now focus on the widening of Avalon Avenue, repairing bridges, then resurfacing other roadways during Phase Three.
