The government shutdown has forced the cancellation of portions of a festival at a national park in DeKalb County.

Rendezvous at the Rim, a festival welcoming the return of the autumn season, has been canceled. The event offered guided hikes, photography and geography lessons, as well as other events. However, because the event was due to take place inside the national park, officials said they had no choice but to cancel that portion of the festival.

The event was set for this weekend. Local tourism officials said it is unfortunate because this is the third-biggest month at the park, as the brilliant colors of fall begin to set in.

"We need to be open for business. I'm just thankful this partnership allows us to continue doing something there to attract people," said DeKalb Tourism President John Dersham.

Other portions of the festival, such as the half-marathon, will go on as planned.
