Scottsboro street dept. supervisor suspended

Posted: Updated:

The street department supervisor in Scottsboro was suspended for thirty days and city officials are giving few details as to the reasons why.

Mayor Melton Potter confirmed he placed street superintendent Ronnie Dolberry on leave for thirty days without pay effective Monday. The reasons for which the mayor said will not be disclosed on advice of the city attorney.

Dolberry served for nearly six years as superintendent of the city's street department.

Mayor Melton Potter said Dolberry has not been suspended before but did receive a written reprimand approximately two years ago for an unrelated incident. The mayor only said Dolberry's suspension is due to violations of city policy.

Potter did confirm there was an accident within the department two weeks ago but declined to say if the accident had anything to do with the suspension.

"We had a street department employee who was loading a dozer on a trailer and the dozer rolled off the trailer. It injured the employee but not seriously. He was treated and released. I think he wound up with a sprained neck," said Mayor Potter.

Dolberry is due back on the job November 4th.
