3 compete in special election for Alabama House

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Three Republicans are competing in the special election to represent Alabama House District 74.

Former Montgomery County Board of Education president Charlotte Meadows is running against Montgomery County Commissioner Dimitri Polizos and Montgomery County Board of Education vice president Health Sellers. If no one gets a majority in Tuesday's election, a runoff will be held Nov. 19.

The three are trying to replace Republican Jay Love of Montgomery. He resigned in August and went to work for the Business Education Alliance. No Democrat is running for his seat.

House District 74 covers part of Montgomery and has a large number of state employees. The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
