UAH Men's Basketball Ranked No. 20 in DII Bulletin Poll

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After reaching its third consecutive NCAA South Regional final a season ago, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will begin the 2013-14 campaign with national recognition yet again as the squad is ranked 20th in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 25 as announced on Monday.

Head Coach Lennie Acuff will see his squad return two starters from last year's team in Ronnie Mack and Conner Blasi along with the 2013 GSC Freshman of the Year Wayne Dedrick who started nine games down the stretch for last year's team that captured the regular season GSC title.

Mack during his sophomore season led the conference in 3-point field goal percentage while also ranking fourth in 3-pointers per game, and Dedrick ranked second in 3-point field goal percentage, registering enough attempts to also rank 21st in the country in the category. Blasi – who returns for his season season – was the 10th-best shot blocker in the GSC, and his strong shooting percentage of 55.3 percent led the Chargers.

Florida Southern – who advanced to the Elite Eight as the South Region champion last year – ranked 14th in the poll, while fellow GSC member Christian Brothers landed in the others to watch category by the publication. Florida Tech also earned that distinction to round out the South Region contingent in the poll.

In the DII Bulletin Super 16, the region was represented by West Florida's Ellis Young III and Jerell Harris of Saint Leo.

The first official practice of the new season for UAH will be next week, and Midnight Madness is slated for Friday, Oct. 18, at Spragins Hall. Doors will open for the annual spectacle at 11 p.m.
