LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

With negotiations surrounding the closure of international paper in Courtland complete, a proposal is ready to be put to a vote to see if union officials and mill management can agree.

The union leadership is in the process of met with the hourly union workforce Monday to take a vote on the proposal.

The Courtland mill has three unions, which have been in discussions throughout the day, so it could take awhile before a final decision is known.

Anything could be on the table, like straight cash severance packages or things like money for retraining assistance.

When the mill officially closes, 1,100 workers will lose their jobs.

Officials said that out of respect for the union and their proceedings, the mill will not issue any formal announcement or release the outcome of the union vote.
