ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Arthur Steverson said no one's child should have to suffer the vicious attack his son endured.

Two large dogs pounced on his son, Azarius Lowe, Monday outside the New Schools at Carver.

Tuesday, animal control officers captured a dog suspected of attacking a young boy in Fulton County.  However, an official with the agency said it was not one of the dogs involved in the attack at the New Schools at Carver.

Steverson said his son was badly injured and was under sedation at the Grady Trauma Center after undergoing reconstructive surgery.

Steverson said he wished he could have been at the school to protect his son.

"I wish it would never have happened to him. I could've been there. I could've taken it on instead of him," Steverson said.

The animals mauled Lowe's face and arms.

"He's hurting. He's not talking much. Right now, they're just wrapping him up and cleaning his wounds and waiting for him to move upstairs where he can rest," Steverson said.

Animal control placed traps around the baseball field, close to where the attack happened.

The school was locked down earlier on Monday but reopened later in the afternoon.

Steverson wanted to know how could such an attack happen at his son's school where children are supposed to safe.

"I would like this to be addressed and find out how it happened. What can they do to not allow this to happen again?" Steverson asked.

The dogs were last seen to be headed towards Pryor Street and the Villages at Carver YMCA area.  Animal control officers are warning anyone who sees a stray dog in the area not to go near it, but to call police.
