If you were thinking a government shutdown was a bad as things could get … in a little over two weeks our Treasury Department will have maxed out its credit limit and will begin running short on cash to pay our nation's bills. The United States of America could conceivably have a government that is shutdown AND, at the same time be in default of meeting it's dept obligations. For the record, according to the Congressional Research Service, the two previous shutdowns-in late 1995 and early 1996- cost the country $1.4 billion dollars.
the current shutdown, 800,000 federal workers are furloughed without pay,
affecting everything from national parks to the I-R-S. And if you are
applying for a federal home loan, would like a passport or a gun permit - it's
not going to happen until our leaders get their acts together. We elected the
President and members of Congress to be LEADERS. Where's the Leadership? If we
don't hold them accountable, we have only ourselves to blame.
