HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A former Alabama congressman is speaking out about Congress' inability to compromise. Bud Cramer is not just worried about people furloughed at the Arsenal; he is worried about this country.

Cramer said there are many unintended consequences that congress is not thinking through. He said the legislative arena has become so hyper-partisan, it's overwhelming.

"It's not easy to live through this type of uncertainty," said Cramer. "We had a government shutdown toward the end of 1995 when I was there. It was horrible. We've got young folks, middle aged folks, older folks, who work at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. I don't want those families held hostage because of (Congress') inability to get things done in Washington D.C."

Cramer said he worries folks may think twice before taking a job on the Arsenal or at NASA if this keeps happening. That concerns him because he said it's important to continue attracting the best and brightest here to North Alabama.
