DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur's Sweetwater project is officially dead.

In a press release, city officials said despite months of negotiations, the new shopping area is not feasible at this time.

The Sweetwater project would have cost about $1.6 billion.

This isn't the first time it has failed. It was brought up several years ago, but never got off the ground.

City officials said they hope to bring the project up again as the economy improves.
