Truck driver killed in Lawrence Co. crash

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A truck driver died when his tractor trailer crashed in Lawrence County late Thursday night.

State troopers say the crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on Highway 33, near the Lawrence-Winston County line.

State Troopers identified the victim as 45-year-old William J. Rivers of Empire, Alabama.

The crash caused a fire and diesel spill, but troopers say the fire burned up most of the diesel.

No other vehicles were involved.

Troopers are trying to learn why the truck crashed.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management and US Forest Service also responded to the crash site.
