Huntsville charity impacted by government shutdown

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Organizers of one local charity say the government shutdown is already causing pain.

Christmas Charities Year Round representatives believe the longer the shutdown lingers, the worse it will be for Huntsville.

The charity reports donations are already down and they have concerns about government workers not receiving paychecks and dropping off donations. The charity said a group of volunteers from Redstone Arsenal didn't show up to volunteer this week.

Christmas Charities Year Round believes the no-show happened because it was set up through Redstone Arsenal and not by individuals. Charity leaders have doubts heading into the Christmas season.

"The donations have been down and that's telling," said Christmas Charities Year Round's Wanda Ashby. "That's what scares me."
