2 charged as police continue murder investigation

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Madison police arrested and charged two men early Wednesday morning with the murder of 27-year-old Bradley Antwon Hayes.

Officers were called to a shooting at Carrington Cove Apartments around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said Hayes of Huntsville had been shot once in the chest area with a handgun.

Authorities said Hayes was transported to the Huntsville Hospital by HEMSI where he later died from his injuries.

Madison, Madison County, and Huntsville City investigators worked together to identify the two suspects involved in the shooting. Mario Xavier Twitty, 19, of Madison and Labrian Lashun Scruggs, 21, of Huntsville were arrested and charged with murder early Wednesday morning. The two suspects were transported to Madison County Metro Jail with bonds of $75,000 each.

Police said preliminary findings indicated that Hayes was shot during a drug deal and attempted robbery. Investigators said they recovered a quantity of marijuana and the weapon believed to have been used.

Officers confirmed Thursday that none of the people involved lived at the complex. Investigators are trying to determine why the group ended up there.

"Some of them may have lived there in the past. There is some information that leads us to believe that. They were definitely familiar with the area," said Lieutenant Terrell Cook.

Police said they feel confident Twitty and Scruggs are the only suspects involved.

"Through talking to [witnesses] and finding out what happened, we were able to get enough probable cause to detain one of the individuals who was still at the scene. From there, the investigation led to information on the other person," said Lt. Cook.

Police are working to determine if this shooting is connected to any of the other drug-related shootings in Huntsville that have taken place over the last few days.
