GRANT, AL (WAFF) -

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office said they arrested a Grant store owner on drug charges Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies said this arrest happened after an investigation into the illegal sale of "spice," which is banned in Alabama. Authorities said they were able to purchase spice multiple times from Rasiklal B. Patel, 61, at the Country Farm store in Grant, which he owns.

Patel was charged with drug trafficking and two counts of distributing a controlled substance. He was transported to the Marshall County Jail

Sheriff Scott Walls said the situation is particularly troublesome because it stems from complaints of sales to school age children.

"It's popular among the high school-age children because it's easy to get to when you have some local convenience store that's selling it across the counter. There's been some really, really bad reactions from [spice]," Walls said.

Patel is currently out on an $80,000 bond.
