FLORENCE, Ala. -- Jennifer Osmond scored three goals, Chloe Richards added a goal and an assist and Stacey Webber had two assists as the University of North Alabama women's soccer team scored a season-high five goals in a 5-0 rout of Delta State.
The win improves UNA's record to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State falls to 2-5-1 and 1-2-1.
Osmond, a senior from Southampton, England, ranks as UNA's third all-time leading scorer but had scored just two goals in 2013 entering Wednesday's match. She scored her first goal of the night less than six minutes into the contest when she rifled a kick past the Delta State goalkeeper off a free kick at the 5:59 mark. She then took a pass from Richards at 29:30 and blasted it into the net from short range to give UNA a 2-0 lead.
Richards, a sophomore from Cornwall, England, scored a goal of her own in the 34th minute off a pass from Stacey Webber to extend the lead to 3-0. It was Richards' fourth goal of the season.
After a Delta State foul, Osmond got a penalty kick and put the ball in the bottom left corner of the net at the 55:38 mark to make it 4-0. Osmond now has 42 career goals and leads UNA with five this season.
The final score of the night came at 56:59 when senior Abby Fannin got an assist from Webber for her fourth goal of the year.
UNA goalkeepers Rachel Beninati and Schyler Arnold combined for the shutout. Beninati was in goal for 74 minutes and Arnold worked the final 16. The Statesmen managed just one shot on goal all night and were out-shot 15-3 overall by the Lions.
With the win, UNA is now 10-1 all-time against Delta State and has won the last eight straight meetings in the series.
North Alabama will now play six of its remaining seven matches on the road, beginning with a trip to Pensacola, Fla., Saturday (Oct. 5) to take on defending NCAA Division II National Champion West Florida.
