Name of victim killed in fiery Montgomery crash released

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department is identifying the victim killed in a fiery car crash along Interstate 65 Wednesday evening.

Henry Lassie Sr., 60, of Montgomery was killed when the 2012 Ford Fusion he was driving left the roadway, traveled down a hillside and struck a tree. Investigators say the victim was killed on impact.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. between the Edgemont Avenue and West Boulevard exits of Interstate 65 south. That's approximately two miles south of the I65/85 interchange.

Lassie's vehicle caught fire almost immediately after the crash and had to be extinguished by the Montgomery Fire Department.

Accident investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash and say they can't release any further details at this time.

Lassie's death is the city of Montgomery's 15th traffic fatality of 2013.
