NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Rubenstein Public Relations (RPR) announced today that the agency will be celebrating Halloween in New York City's 40th Annual Village Halloween Parade with a float featuring DJ VH1, best known for collaborating with Lady Gaga.
In addition to participating, RPR is volunteering its public relations services to help the parade, a not-for-profit arts organization, raise money through a Kickstarter campaign to ensure that the tradition continues for years to come. Proceeds from the campaign will allow the parade to recover considerable financial losses from the last minute cancellation of last year's celebration due to Superstorm Sandy, as well as to provide financial backing for the parade in future years. RPR will generate awareness on behalf of the organization to drive online traffic to the Kickstarter website, where supporters can make donations.
"We look forward to participating in this New York City tradition on its 40th anniversary," said Richard Rubenstein, President of Rubenstein Public Relations. "The parade is synonymous with the city's vibrant culture. It is important to the RPR team that this tradition continues for many years, and we are honored to be a part of it."
DJ VH1 (a.k.a Brendan Jay Sullivan), a writer and producer from Brooklyn who appeared in Lady Gaga's music video for Just Dance, will perform on RPR's parade float with his signature style of inventive remixes and floor fillers. Harper Collins recently released his first book, Rivington Was Ours: Lady Gaga, the Lower East Side and the Prime of Our Lives, in August 2013. Known for "bringing rock 'n' roll to the dance floor" and as "the nicest guy in nightlife" in New York, DJ VH1's sly attitude and attention to classics inspired The Ting Tings to write their first single, "Great DJ."
The iconic event has entertained the public on Halloween night for the past 40 years, attracting over 2 million people from across the globe at the 2011 parade alone. Last year's cancellation was the first in the parade's history, a milestone the organization never wished to meet. The parade has historically helped to lift the spirits of the global community in the face of devastation and destruction. It marked the first major event in New York after 9/11 and welcomed thousands of New Orleans locals after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Inspired by the strength and courage of New York City after Hurricane Sandy, the agency's float will be themed "Gotham Superheroes." RPR employees along with friends and family will ride the float in their favorite superhero costumes. In addition to enjoying DJ VH1's music, the crowd will also see dancers tossing candy and helping to liven up the Halloween spirit.
With the help of RPR's efforts, the Kickstarter campaign has been covered by major news outlets including the Daily News, Wall Street Journal, Metro, amNY, Huffington Post, Newsday and the Associated Press, helping to raise $28,000 out of the $50,000 needed to fund this year's parade.
