FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Wednesday that the deaths of two people from the Dogtown community appears to be a murder-suicide.

DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies received a missing persons call Monday night. A search was launched for 54-year-old Felicia Ann Lindsey and her nephew, 22-year-old Max Ruben Zeller.

Officers located Lindsey's vehicle in Cherokee County, Georgia, and asked officers there to attempt locating the two people.

Police in Canton GA searched a mobile home, where Zeller fled into a bedroom and apparently shot himself. He was transported to a hospital in Marietta, where he died Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, DeKalb Co. investigators continued searching for Lindsey. During a search of her residence, evidence of a crime scene was discovered which eventually led to the discovery of Lindsey's body. An attempt had been made to hide the body in the crawl space of her home. Coroner Tom Wilson pronounced Lindsey dead at the scene and transported her body to a forensics lab in Huntsville for an autopsy.

Preliminary results indicate Lindsey died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators said a follow-up determined Zeller killed his aunt and attempted to clean the crime scene before fleeing to Georgia in her vehicle.

"This is a terrible tragedy for everyone concerned. The Lindsey family is well respected in our community and this is just unthinkable," said Harris.

The investigation is ongoing.
